*2012 Celebrations
To repeat from last time-'Godalming Town Council is planning a wonderful weekend of celebration for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee starting with the Godalming Town Show on Saturday 2 June that includes the Carnival Procession for which the theme is sport. They want it to be bigger than ever with more clubs and organisations having floats either foot or mobile, so hope clubs will make a special effort to get involved.
We have been asked to organise a Sports for All on the Monday 4 June as part of the celebrations probably including a road race and fun events and there will be other attractions going on all around Bury's Field. This is a BIG event. don't miss out and is another opportunity to promote your club so get the date in your diaries and contact Michael O'Sullivan for any more information, email mosullivan03@gmail.com.
The Olympic torch comes to Godalming on 20 July and we are looking for something special to celebrate it but certainly want to include schools and families. Any ideas to Michael O'Sullivan at mosullivan03@gmail.com
There will also be a Paralympics torch sponsored by BT and if you wish to enter a team go to www.bt.com/London2012 or phone 08000 222399
*Spectrum Savate Club
Many of us who saw the demonstration by the club at the Sports Awards have now become aware of this club that is based at Broadwater. They have British Champions in Tony Crossman, James Antill and Rachel Shore and Michael Grove is Junior British Champion. That's some record and they held an international gala event at Broadwater on 27 November when many champions were performing and the Federation International President was there to watch.
*Our activities
We will be taking a look at our future activities because we feel that we probably need to be focused on projects that produce outcomes that benefit the community if we are to achieve funding. If there is anything that you feel we should be doing let us know and we can build it into our plans.
*Go for Gold
The 2012 grants will be made by the Mayor of Godalming on 19 January. What a tough year ahead for our athletes who will have to reach a number of peaks to achieve selection and for the Games themselves. But as we have said before what a target for them to compete at the Olympics in London and something for all of us in Godalming to enjoy.
Thank you to everyone who has helped to raise the funds for Go for Gold that has now reached £35k and still growing.
*Grants for projects
If you are looking for a small grant up to £1000 for a specific project particularly for new activities, for courses for coaches and/or judges, for special events and to improve opportunities for participation this could be available from Surrey County Playing Fields Association. Contact Martin Maybrey email martin.maybrey@btinternet.com or phone on 01483 893209
*Subscriptions
To ease the collection of subscriptions the Treasurer will soon be sending out standing order forms. If you are able to complete one that would be very helpful.
Seasons greetings to you all, enjoy your sport in 2012 |
