Sport Godalming Sports Awards 2019 – What a fantastic night on Friday 9th November in The Wilfred Noyce Centre, celebrating our local athletes, sports people and volunteers and recognising their successes and acheivements.

The evening was supported by the Mayor of Waverley Cllr Mary Foryszewski and the Major of Godalming Town Council, Cllr Penny Rivers.

Guest speaker Tom Gregory inspired the Award’s night with his thrilling account of his World Record Swim across the English Channel in 1988 aged 11! A record that can never be broken.

The competition for all the awards was incredible this year and the finalists have all excelled in their chosen sport or have been selfless in coaching and volunteering.

Particular mention goes to Chris Carson who as a past winner of Sports Personality of the Year , won the Inclusive Sport Award this year and gave an eloquent account of this year’s success to GB level.

All the winners are listed in the Sports Awards pages, and the pictures of the evening can be seen by clicking this link http://www.sportgodalming.org.uk/sports-awards/sports-awards-november-2019/

Simon Crowther, Chairman of Sport Godalming said, “These awards evenings are always very special, not only for those athletes and teams being recognised but also by their supporters, coaches and families. This year was no exception and the buzz around a packed Wilfrid Noyce Centre was truly electric. From my side, I would like to thank the Sport Godalming team for all their contributions, on and leading up to the evening. We were honoured to have both Mayors from Waverley and Godalming in attendance as well as Tom Gregory, whose words were inspirational. All in all, a terrific evening and we look forward to 2020 and doing it all over again!”
