Elizabeth is a 20-year-old (2011) fencer from Guildford and who currently competes for Aldershot Fencing Club. She won her first national event at the UK School Games at the age of 17 and has since competed at regional, UK and European championships. Elizabeth trains at the Lansdowne Fencing Club (alongside Aldershot Fencing Club and Steven Davey) with national coaches Ziemek Wojciechowski and Maciej Wojtkowiak.
Elizabeth particularly admires international fencers Nam Hyunhee of Korea “because her change of pace and timing is phenomenal and she is so quick on her feet” and Fanny Kreiss of Hungary “because her execution and timing is perfect and effortless, and is a pleasure to watch”. Her favourite to compete against is Koske Jisho of Japan whose “style of fencing suits me very well and we have a lot of challenging fast tempo fights against each other”.
Elizabeth studied for her A levels in Maths, Physics and Music Technology. She hopes to study for a degree in Sound Engineering at university.
The latest update from Jasmine Ing (September 2011):
"Liz has had a busy summer, training and getting ready for the new season. She has decided to suspend her degree for another year to train and compete for the honour of representing GB at next years Olympics. Her decision is not uncommon as at least 3 others across the weapons, and young like her, are going for the grand prize of representation at London's 2012 Olympics.
"She is currently training in Bath as part of the GB womens foil team training squad. And over the summer, has been training in Nottingham, Poland, Hungary and Paris, sometimes with the GB team, although for the camps in Poland and Hungary, these were independent ones, so Liz just contacted the organisers and made her own way there. To quote the organiser of the Polish camp - You are very determined girl.....
"The new domestic senior season has started and Liz won the Bronze at the Essex Open (3rd Sept) and Silver at the Bristol open (18th sept). She is now training towards the next 4 internationals (Feb/Mar 2012) which will determine the GB team for London 2012.
